Diagnostic Procedure

MRI

Magnetic resonance imaging for detailed views of organs, soft tissues, bone, and other internal body structures.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an advanced diagnostic imaging technique that uses powerful magnetic fields and radio waves to produce highly detailed images of organs, soft tissues, bones, and other internal body structures. Unlike X-rays and CT scans, MRI does not use ionizing radiation, making it an especially useful tool for detailed soft tissue evaluation.

MRI is commonly used to evaluate conditions of the brain and spinal cord, joints and musculoskeletal system, abdominal organs, blood vessels, and heart. It is particularly valuable for diagnosing herniated discs, torn ligaments, brain tumors, stroke, multiple sclerosis, and internal organ abnormalities that may not be visible on other imaging studies.

During the MRI, you lie on a table that slides into a large, cylindrical machine. The scan is painless but requires you to remain still for the duration, which may range from 20 to 60 minutes depending on the area being scanned. You may hear loud tapping or thumping sounds from the machine. Earplugs or headphones are typically provided for comfort.

Garden State Medical Group coordinates MRI services for patients who require this level of imaging. Your provider will order the MRI, explain what to expect, and review the results with you in detail once they are available. We ensure that the referral process is seamless and that you receive timely follow-up.

If your provider has recommended an MRI or if you have a condition that may benefit from advanced imaging, call Garden State Medical Group at (201) 453-2800. We will guide you through the process and ensure you receive the diagnostic answers you need.
